Get Movin!

Hey Crafters.     I wan't to take a little bit of time to let you know what is going on and my new revelations about crafting.   I recently posted something on Twitter     --- how long do you keep preparing, before you get going?"     And that seems to be the status of my life in the world of crafting.

I am a subscriber to many Youtube Channels and watch them for education as well as inspiration.   I read a ton of blogs of the crafters I find most like my own design areas.    I have a huge studio and I've been collecting supplies for ever but never jump full force into using or completing what I had originally intended.

I believe it is time to "get moving".     I put myself on a moritorium of spending, except getting better lighting put in my studio and electricity ran to several more outlets.    I've been reorganizing all that I have and sectioning off the room into different craft centers.    Next, I think I keep procrastinating because of my love of all types of crafts.    I love repurposing items or transforming them into other things.   I sew, quilt, embroider.  I needle point, cross stitch and cross paint.   I make cards and paper projects, only I have never got into scrapbooking.   I also am starting to do a little jewelry making.

Basically, I love the feeling I get when I have made something with my own two hands.     But I find that even though I love crafting, I spend too much time trying to keep learning.    So I've convinced myself to get after it and put limits to the computer.

I also find myself to be a perfectionist with OCD tendancies.   So I often feel like I must get everything prepped before I can begin.   I want to open a store to sell the things I make and transform but I don't want to make a mistake (see the perfectionist there)?   I want to make videos to share the setbacks and stumbling blocks that have beset me.

So I encourage you, if you find yourself doing the same thing.   Just pick one thing and get going with it.   No one will know if it isn't perfect - only you.  If you think it is good, then share it.  But I think you will find out like I did, it is the imperfections that allow others to relate to you.         Ready, set go.............

Found a cute project on Face Book and thought I would give it a try.     I know all the kids are going to want them.  Thought I would share with you.   Below is a picture and instructions (found on the group Starting Chain)   Enjoy

Making ribbing first:
Chain 8, ch 1 for the turn and then half double crochet in every chain across.. Chain 1 and turn,
hdc in the back loops all the way across (this will make ribbing). Chain 1 and turn your work and do this step until the cuff fits snug around your leg. About 21 rows. then slip stitch the ends together, chain 1 turn
single crochet all the way around the cuff slip stitch to join. Chain 1 and turn.

Then  hdc all the way around for 6 rows.. slip stitch to join.. ...
Chain 4 then slip stitch into the third chain, chain 4 and repeat all the way around. After I get my loops made I do these steps into the loop... do 1 single crochet. 1 half double crochet, 4 double crochet, 1 half double crochet and 1 single crochet.. Inside each loop around.. then slip stitch and fasten off. Weave in any yarn tails..

For the scalloped edge:

I made a set of fingeless gloves using a pattern by HappyBerry.   And then, eveybody I know wanted a pair.
Here is her YT link:

Thankfully, I have a stash of yarn and was able to make them as requested.  I don't know if you are like me, but I don't look at crocheting as a craftl  I like to crochet to take my mind off of all the other things that tug at you.    I have crochet for so long that I can do a lot of it by feel and not by looking.   I take it with me when my husband and I have to make a trip. (I live in the boonies, where you have to drive 90 ish miles to the doctor, to find a JoAnn or Hobby Lobby).   If I have any appointment where you have to wait - I take crochet.

There are a lot of great tutorials out there if you don't know how to crochet.   I'll try to put a list together of a few of my favorites.

My Late Night Companion

I am a late night person.   During the day, I do my househols business, then move on to my personal business and crafts.   So after supper and a little TV.... I come to the den and check my mail and of course Facebook.

Then onto Youtube and blogs that I subscribe to.     I try to watch the latest upload, If you do this, you know how long this takes.  So sadly, as I scroll down the list of recent uploads.   I must skip some.  Or I put them in the watch later section.

Sometimes I think  "I know this" but I hang in there an find new ideas and get truly encouraged.   Having a plan makes things go so much faster.

So it is now a little beforer 1 am.   and as I am in the den, one of my 3 yorkies come to visit.  Almost saying ..."come to bed"  Sometimes all 3 come to visit.  I have an 12 year old mamma.  Her ony livng offspring.  He will be 10 this coming December.   His daddy passed away in 2008.    In 2009, I got a little teacup.  So he will be 5 in March but we still call him the baby.

No matter what you are going through, they show so much unconditional love.  We put 2 little beds in this den and they share it.... But tonight, as I look over my chair,  Truth is curled up in the babies bed.

I hopw you find the same delight in your pets:

Along Our Journey Home

Every time we drive South to Little Rock, I pass this barn.  Across the road there is a live spring and you see people filling up there jugs to get this fresh, clear, clean water.  We were riding our motorcycles this day and I told my husband to pull over (we use Scala Rider G9s on our helmets).   I was able to take this picture.

It looks like something you would see on a jigsaw puzzle.   I just wanted to share this picture even though it isn't anything to do with crafting.

What's Up With This Weather?

Can you believe this weather.......?   Well I don't remember it being this cold in years.  Guess that puts an end to global warming :).

I am trying to take advantage of being indoors to revamp my craft room/studio.    I also got some new shelving units to help organize.  I'm going through everything putting it in its new place and it is like Christams all over.   I'm finding things I had forgotten about.

I am going to do my best to use up the things I have this year before buying anything new.   I did pick up the large Fiskars paper trimmer for Christmas.

I hope you all are having a wonderful start to the New Year.
